A Summer Marcothon

The rules on Christmas Day are that you must wear a santa hat and drink champagne before the run Running every day for a month is hard for most. Running every day for a month in the lightless arctic month of December in Scotland is harder still. Obviously, this had to become a challenge. This challenge had to be called The Marcothon. It is named after some bloke in Scotland. Marco runs more than occasionally. So does his wife. Google the story. You can even buy the t-shirt. Running every day for December when you are currently residing in summertime New Zealand and have very little employment obligations… not as difficult. Perhaps even cheating. But given that I have attempted numerous times in Scotland and achieved just once, I thought summertime New Zealand matched my commitment level more closely. The rules; run every day in December for at least 5km or 25 minutes (whichever comes first). Previously highlights included leaving a Mexican restaurant at 11:30pm after ...

Running Lake Rotoiti, Nelson Lakes National Park

Another day in New Zealand, another national park. Today (or on the 27th of December) we are in the Nelson Lakes National Park running around Lake Rotoiti. This translates to small lake which means that I'll run it twice. Don't want to be a wimp. Although I probably should have expressed this desire sooner than the night before the adventure. Scott and father are up for a kayak / run tag team for one lap, leaving my wee sister's boyfriend Tom getting roped into running the two laps.   We start on the hour long drive late for a leisurely start. The starting point is at St Arnaud where there's a toilet block, car park, pebbly beach and jetty.  Half of Tom's family are joining the festivities with a walk and a picnic. Tom, Scott and I start off in anticlockwise direction full of enthusiasm and jet plane sweeties. There's a few miles of road pounding before we get to the track running near the lakeside. It's all niceties and turn-taking ...

Abel Tasman National Park

Honeymooners do the Abel Tasman The blogging is in full swing due to a few injuries that I have acquired. They all end in 'itis' and are uber cool. The injuries make my personality wild too and I do things like rearrange my wardrobe. Whereas previously it had been organised via function (I'm a practical person) I've now gone crazy and it's via colour. Who knew I could be so crazy?! But without further procrastination, here's a few details from running in the Abel Tasman.   The Location   Abel Tasman is a national park in New Zealand located only an hour away from my home town, Nelson. Although public transport in New Zealand is essentially non-existent, there are transport transfers if you are doing any boating tours in the park with some companies. Thankfully my chauffer father drove us in the family limousine.   Abel Tasman National Park     The Track   There's actu...
