Ultra-Running: The Wedding Edition

Umbrellas? But it's a beautiful day in Edinburgh... The Ultra Training  In May I had the 24 hour race which meant that I had 24 hours of thinking time to come up with some vows. That didn’t quite work out as planned as I went to sleep after 23 hours. And 23 hours just wasn’t quite enough time for me to get any vows confirmed in my head. Although I could have written numerous vows to my cup-of-pasta. I am extremely excited about running in Glenmore just so I can eat the other packet that I have left in the pantry. So I came back from Holland begging the Humanist to write the vows which I now cannot remember anyway. All international guests should be greeted at the airport with a sweaty hug. It wasn’t so much of a rule than it was a bad habit. So with international guest number one arriving (Mareta), I attempted to squeeze in a run before her arrival time. Gran Canaria Marathon

Training for the conditions is probably a good idea. Some may even say important. Then there are others who just feel the pull of a snowy Scottish trail the week before their sun-beaten road marathon and think 'well, it'd be a shame not to.' I am one of the latter. So I had a gentle two-day, 40-mile taper on the West Highland Way the weekend before the Gran Canaria Marathon. There was some good chat of weddings and meeting of new folk. No one broke their leg coming down Conic Hill and there was some romantic snow on the Sunday. But then, you cannot force 24 degrees upon a Scottish winter anyway so don't fret and jog on. Thanks to Ian Minty for organising and taking a rather wet, talkative Kiwi to the train station afterwards. And Lucy Downie, for that brilliant hot chocolate! Sorry to all for being slow.
