Glenmore 12 Hour Race 2013

Glenmore throws a good party. Or at least Mike Adams and Bill Heirs throw a good party at the Hayfield in Glenmore. And I've had this bad boy of a party locked in for a while. I thought about packing party poppers, glittery hats and some dancing shoes. Instead a packed my wellies, some beer and every fleece I own. Everyone's party style is different and that's ok folks. People like to dress in lycra at running parties and I have an incredible amount of respect for people that wear lycra. Glenmore party racing is in it's third year now. Each year it gets a little bit bigger and there are a few more rules as the serious runners start taking part. I ran the 12-hour two years ago in it's first year and it was brilliant. My pals Nicole and Hilary came up to support, drink and get intimate with the Highland midgies while Scott learnt that camping wasn't a strong skill of mine. Last year I was meant to go back for the 24-hour. Unfortunately, I got a bit whingey ove...

Ultra-Running: The Wedding Edition

Umbrellas? But it's a beautiful day in Edinburgh... The Ultra Training  In May I had the 24 hour race which meant that I had 24 hours of thinking time to come up with some vows. That didn’t quite work out as planned as I went to sleep after 23 hours. And 23 hours just wasn’t quite enough time for me to get any vows confirmed in my head. So I came back from Holland begging the Humanist to write the vows which I now cannot remember anyway. All international guests should be greeted at the airport with a sweaty hug. Too much flat cleaning meant that that run needed to be one to the airport. Mareta’s an athlete herself so...

Clyde Stride

Glasgow Tanning For those of you who have come across this blog in a frantic search for who that guy running as NUMBER ONE was for the Clyde Stride, then I’ll give you a wee break down of the big fella’s training…  January 2013 – Gran Canaria Marathon. A solid first effort marathon for Scott and bonding session with Norm and Ally. February 2013 – Takes a rest and starts to think beyond marathons. Enters the D33. Manages to do some training at the end of the month. March 2013 – D33 completed. He’s never doing that again (or words to that effect). Amazing breakfast at the Park Inn Aberdeen the following morning. April 2013 – Takes a fancy to Lee and enters the Clyde Stride. I commit myself as a buddy runner. May 2013 – Training takes full flight. Our flat is a war zone. We switch from fish finger sandwiches to fish finger wraps. This is an athlete’s flat now. June 2013 – International visitors arrive from all directions. A weddi...
